This newly-built library is situated on an exposed intersection of Nerudova and Havlíčkova streets, right next to the hospital. It is designed in the spirit of modest urban monumentality and creates an open space for studying, searching for informations, cultural activities, children‘s games, and relaxation. The overall conception is based on a play with “empty” and “full” squares. The urbanistic composition is divided into three squares, two of which are full (library and parking house) forming a generous entrance space. The library itself is based on a ground plan arranged into 3 × 3 squares with the exceeding central hall around which all publicly accessible spaces are organized. The proposal was awarded 3rd prize in an open architectonic competition.
