00362 st. methodius's hillock

< 1 / 5 >

St. Methodius's Hillock is located in the southeastern part of the city of Uherské Hradiště. In the centre of this area, there is an important archeological site ”Špitálky” closely associated with the beginnings of Christianity in Moravia. In the urban study, the overall conceptual integration of the locality into the city including a connection to a wider territorial context is solved. The main content of the area is a city park with presentation of the archeological landmark and a related newly-built museum. The basic motive of the park is a circular footpath bordered by an alley connecting the existing as well the newly-created pathways and defining 3 poles on its perimeter – 3 stops with a different functional aim – the excavation site, museum and recreational area as a supplement to housing adjacent to the locality. The proposal contains a dignified solution to the former Jewish cemetery, an arrangement of the city furniture, lighting and information system. The whole thematic orientation will be enhanced by a sculpture of St. Cyril and Methodius.
