00246 new footway and bicycle bridge over drava river in maribor

< 1 / 7 >

In the context of beeing the European Capital of Culture in 2012 Maribor called for the architectural competition for the arrangement of the river Drava area including the new footway and bycicle bridge that will reestablish the connection between historical parts of the city and will contribute to overall revitalization of Lent and Tabor embankments. Our solution evolves around the transparent nature of the bridge structure that accords with the dominancy of the Main Bridge, same time adding a contemporary design to the historical context of the city. Other important advantages of the project include convenient buildability, durability of the construction itself and materials used and reasonable costs. To achieve maximum subtlety of the construction when bridging over the 130-metre-wide riverbed we designed a structure formed by a stress ribbon of two spans assembled from precast segments, with the cast-in-place abutments and the central cast-in-place saddle carried by a concrete pier with angled steel supports. The height clearance of the structure above the water level is minimally 3,5 m in the middle part of the riverbed, with the height gradually decreasing towards the banks to achieve direct connection with the bank levels. The footway flooring will be finished applying an anti-slip screed. The railing is made of the stainless steel cable net. Recessed floor lighting are installed in axis with the railings.
