A new apartment house is located next to the center of Prostějov, on one of its historical roads – Žeranovská Street.
The house has an L-shaped ground plan and consists of two parts: a three-story volume with a slightly sunken entrance which defines the street front and a perpendicular five-story volume oriented to a quiet courtyard that recedes from the street line and lightens the overall size of the building. Both parts are unified by a façade from fiber cement boards in two colors – natural and anthracite. The street façade is segmented by horizontal cornices and a regular window grid. The courtyard side is livened up by a rhythmical play of generously projecting balconies.
The house was originally intended as senior housing with 26 adjustable units. However, the investor changed the program during the construction and finally the house was built with 14 two-room and three-room dwelling units located on the 2nd to 5th floors and accessible from the common stair hall with an elevator. Most of the apartments have a balcony. The roof over the street section of the building serves as a leisure terrace that belongs to the apartment on the 4th floor. There are two rentable commercial spaces on the ground floor, with glass shop windows facing the street, and the technical facilities of the building. The unbuilt courtyard is adjusted for parking. The design pays special attention to the entrance area which may be spatially modest, but thanks to the use of a mirror ceiling it creates a surprising optical illusion inspired by childhood memories of regular trips to the Mirror Maze on Petřín Hill in
In the future, the plan is to expand the apartment house to the neighboring site with both buildings interconnected in operation as well as aesthetic appearance.
