Ceremony hall in the building of the City Authority on Masarykovo Square in Uherske Hradiste is a historical hall with stucco decorations and mural paintings by Joza Uprka picturing stories from the city history. The renovation of the hall included reconstruction of original wooden parquets, reusing frame windows, balcony and inner doors which had been renewed in accordance with restorers in dark grain. Mural paintings in the ceremonial hall were cleaned. The hall was furnished with new equipment, lights and air condition. The assignment also included solution of the adjacent rooms and their transformation into second hall (refreshment room) and preparatory room. However the research showed only small fragments of decorations which did not correspond with the decoration in the ceremonial hall. We decided to create a contemporary decoration inspired by Uprkas’ paintings – to transform the traditional folklore by using modern means of expression.
