00287 / brno-south centre
location: South Centre, Brno, South Moravian Region, Czech Republic
client: City Interventions Brno 2011
project: 2011
project area: 68,5 ha

We are not convinced that the relocation of the Brno Main Station is an entirely good idea, but if it has to be, we would like the South Centre to become an extension of the historic centre and, above all, to become a real city. A city with not only mono-functional boxes, but multifunctional city blocks, streets, alleys, squares, and parks. The main axis of this area can be created by a new boulevard coming out from the new station oriented towards the towers of Petrov Cathedral. In the current zoning plan the boulevard starts at the Station but it ends in a narrow hole under a viaduct. We suggest that the boulevard gradually rises from the Station towards the junction of Nádražní, Nové Sady and Husova streets in order to connect both parts of the city centre, enabling the finishing of the Ring Road as well as the connection of the park ring with Denisovy sady Park. This change will lead to other modifications creating a full-blooded city with all the necessary attributes.
This project was created as a part of Městské zásahy Brno 2011 (Urban Interventions Brno 2011).
